A cold shooting performance in the first half and untimely turnovers had the Carbon High Lady Dinos in a hole early as they fell to the Dixie Flyers 43-23 in the 3A quarterfinals on Thursday night in Ogden.

Carbon shot 13 percent (2-for-15) from the field in the first half as they were only able to score a single field goal in each quarter before going into halftime trailing 16-4.

The offense began to convert shots in the second half, but by then it was too late. Dixie went on a 14-1 run in the second half to help put the game away. The Lady Dinos never led in the game and faced a deficit as large as 26 points late in the second half.

The Carbon High defense collected only two steals in the game while they racked up 17 turnovers on offense leading to scoring chances for the Flyers.

The Lady Dinos finished the game shooting 26 percent (8-of-31) on the night while Dixie shot 33 percent (17-for-51).

Carbon High sophomore Katie Basinger led the Lady Dinos with seven points. Junior Shailee Croasmun added five points and junior center Shelby Cornforth finished with two points on the night.

With the loss, Carbon will now face Bear River on Friday morning (Feb. 22) at 9:30 a.m. at the Dee Events Center. Bear River lost to Cedar 51-41 earlier on Friday.
