Two CHS wrestlers qualify for State Tourney
After a weekend of wrestling at the North-Central 3A regional meet in Richfield, two Carbon High wrestlers placed within the top 8 of their weight class and will be advancing to the State Tournament this week in Orem.
Carbon High head coach Steve Woodhouse said CHS wrestlers Ryan Matkin, wrestling at 126 lbs, and Kahill Hunt, wrestling at 145 lbs, finished in the top 8 in their respective weight classes to advance on to State.
The Dinos came very close to sending three more wrestlers to the tournament, but losses on the final day left them just short.
Woodhouse said Bradlee Chatterton (106 lbs), Luke Cristando (113 lbs) and AJ Barnett (170) were within reach of qualifying for the State Tournament but each lost critical matches on Saturday that kept them from reaching the top 8 of their weight classes.
"The guys battled all weekend," Woodhouse said.
Despite the tough results for some of the wrestlers, Woodhouse said the season should be looked at as a successful one for the entire team.
"We've worked hard all season even though we've been short on numbers all year," he said.
Matkin and Hunt will use the rest of the week to rest and prepare for the State Tournament which will be held on Friday and Saturday at UVU in Orem.
