HELPER - Our beloved father, grandfather and longtime friend, Karl J. Stavar, age 88, passed peacefully Jan. 24, 2013.
He was born Sept. 6, 1924 in Bear Canyon, Colo., to Frank and Frances Tomsic Stavar.
Married Edith Massa, Nov. 27, 1945 in Castle Dale; she died July 6, 2010.
Karl was a longtime resident of Helper where he worked for 26 years in the coal mines in Carbon County and later retired as Chief of Police of Helper. He loved fishing, hunting, the great outdoors and traveling in his motor home. Karl loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survived by his daughter Karla (Robert A.) Hatch, Bountiful; two grandchildren, Kimberlee (Matt) Cook, Endwell, N.Y., Justin R. (Holly) Hatch, Sandy; six great-grandchildren, Kendall, Kennedy, Kearsten and Kamryn Cook, Morgan and Mia Hatch.
The love of his life was his wife, Edith, who preceded him in death and his dog, Jasper.
Karl and his family are very appreciative for his great neighbors and friends who helped him maintain his independence over the past few years.
Funeral Mass, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony's Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
