Tim Riley, Curator of Archaeology at the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum, will present a free lecture on "Ancient inhabitants of Castle Country" Friday at 8 p.m. in the Happiness Within coffee shop in Helper.

The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the Helper Utah Business group as part of the First Friday activities.

The lecture series speakers are selected for their enthusiasm and ability to share their expertise with an audience that may be unfamiliar with the topic.

Dr. Riley has participated in fieldwork in the Great Basin, the Southwest, the Great

Plains, the Great Lakes, American Samoa and Texas. His particular focus is the field of paleoethnobotany, the study of how past cultures used plants for subsistence and material goods. Most of his current research centers on the recovery of plant microfossils, such as starch granules, from cooking vessels and other remnants of food processing and preparation. This lecture will emphasize how we know what we know about the ancient inhabitants of Castle Country.
