Dinos overcome slow start, finish with a fury in 72-45 win over Uintah
The Carbon High Boys Basketball team may have needed a quarter of play to get warmed up after the recent winter storm blew into the state on Tuesday.
After a slow start against Uintah, the Dinos finished fast scoring 44 points in the second half to get past Uintah 72-45.
The Dinos' offense was once again led by a team-high 21 points from senior Derek Young. Fellow senior Jordan Blanc added 19 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Other notable performance from the game for the Dinos included:
Michael Peczuh who finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals;
Wyatt Hansen had 8 points and 3 rebounds;
Dakota Cisneros had a game with plenty of numbers in the box score including 7 points, 4 rebounds, 11 assists and 8 steals.
Another notable takeaway from the game was the Dinos' performance at the free throw line. The Dinos shot 24-of-28 (86 percent) from the line which helped keep the game in their favor.
The Dinos used a 22-6 scoring run in the third quarter to help get a 50-26 lead going into the fourth quarter.
With the win, Carbon (5-4) extended their winning streak to four games. After playing against strong opponents at the Bear River Classic Tournament in late November, the Dinos have been playing well as of late, scoring 65 points per game while allowing 52.7 points to opponents during the streak.
Carbon hosted Grand on Friday evening at home. Results from that game will be printed in Thursday's Sun Advocate.
