Lady Panthers sprint past Rockwell High
PCA defense helps guide team to 37-29 win
In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Pinnacle High Lady Panthers went back to the basics of basketball using strong defense and finding the open players on offense in their 37-29 win over Rockwell on Tuesday night at the PCA gymnasium.
The Lady Panthers took control from the opening tip quickly running out to a 12-5 first quarter lead.
Pinnacle took a 20-14 lead at the half and put the game away with run early in the fourth quarter building a lead that Rockwell would not overcome.
Pinnacle's Ashia Andrews helped pace the Lady Panther offense with a team-high 11 points. Fellow teammate Maggie Syrett also finished in double figures in scoring with 10 points.
Pinnacle head coach Heidi Kay said while her team is still very young, they are picking things up very quickly as the season has progressed.
'We're getting better with each game," Kay said after the win.
The win was a welcome relief for the Lady Panthers after suffering three straight losses including a heartbreaking 41-40 overtime loss to Dugway on Nov. 27.
The Lady Panthers (2-4) will travel to Wendover for a tournament with games on Friday and Saturday.
