Answer to why vote for Obama
I would like to answer Fred Richardson's letter (Nov. 20, Sun Advocate) as to why anyone would vote for President Obama.
I am a liberal and I got all my liberalism from the most liberal man that ever lived. I would like to introduce him to you; his name is Jesus Christ.
When the rich man asked him how he could enter the kingdom of heaven Jesus told him to sell everything he had, give the money to the poor and to follow him. He ended that verse by saying "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than have a rich man to get into heaven." Jesus often told the rich men you that they had their reward.
I would like Fred to name anyone that has made a statement even close to as liberal as that. If I had any objections to Obama it is he has been to willing to compromise. I hope he does not back down again on cancelling the Bush administrations tax cuts for the rich and for corporations.
The man I admire more than any other living person is Jon Huntsman Sr. I understand he donated a hundred million dollars to start the Huntsman Cancer Institute and is giving 80 percent of his earnings to it and eventually all of his estate as well. I am sure if he asked Christ that same question he would tell him he has a place reserved for him.
Obama got some good bills passed in his first two years, but even with a filibuster despite the majority being Democrats, he had to have a few moderate Republicans cross over to get it done.
Romney claimed with his business experience he could eliminate unemployment, but as a venture capitalist he was in the business of causing unemployment. They called it downsizing which was the first thing they do, including getting rid of most of the employees' benefits (including their pensions). If his business experience was eliminating jobs, how does that qualify him to create jobs? I'm sure the Chinese would be grateful for those jobs.
I have always believed in a graduated income tax. I worked for the railroad for 36 years. In 1977 I went from a switch foreman in the yard and went on the main line. My gross pay increased 50 percent, but no one heard me complain that my net pay only increased 40 percent.
I could probably name a lot of other reasons I voted for Obama, but I mostly did it because I am a liberal Christian.
