Winning doesn't always come easy. And even with a win, it may not always look so pretty.

But for the Carbon High Dinos, a win is a win no matter how it looked.

That's the prevailing feeling the Dinos have after getting a close 56-53 win over Ben Lomond on Saturday evening at the Carbon High gymnasium.

After battling each other for much of the game, it was the little things the Dinos did in order to come away with the win. Defense, making free throws and fighting through injuries were just some of the things the Dinos pushed aside to get a win.

"It was a tight, physical game from the start but we were able to come out on top in the end," said Carbon High head coach Jeff Cisneros.

Cisneros said the offense looked good when the Dinos got out and ran against the Scots. However when the game slowed down, the Scots were able to crawl back into the game in the second half.

Senior Jordan Blanc led the Dinos offense with a team-high 20 points. Fellow seniors Bryce Blackburn added 11 points and Dakota Cisneros and Derek Young each finished with nine points.

The Dinos jumped out to an early 15-6 lead after the first quarter but trailed 24-23 at the half. The Dinos battled back and regained the lead late in the game by making key shots and converting their free throw attempts (14-of-18, 78 percent) down the stretch.

"That's what helped us win the game," Cisneros explained.

Cisneros said starting point guard Dakota Cisneros had to leave the game for a short time in the second half when he suffered a cut above his right eye which had to be glued shut.

Bench players including Michael Peczuh, Garrett Blanc and Peyton Fausett made key contributions to help the team throughout the game, Cisneros said.

Carbon High (2-4) will travel on Friday night to play Emery High at 7 p.m. They will host Tooele on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Carbon High Gymnasium.
