Earl D. Gunderson, 85, of Rock Springs, Wyo. passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at his home. He was a resident of Rock Springs, Wyo. and former long time resident of East Carbon.

He was born on May 23, 1927 in Molen the son of the late Charles G. Gunderson and Marcella McDonald Gunderson.

Mr. Gunderson attended schools in Huntington in Emery County and the Carbon High School in Price.

He married Karla J. Woodruff on June 23, 1949 at the Salt Lake L.D.S Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married sixty three years.

Mr. Gunderson was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II.

He was employed as a Machinist for United States Steel in Horse Canyon for forty-five years. He also worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Dragerton and was a member of the School Board, Planning and Zoning Commission and Search and Rescue.

Mr. Gunderson was instrumental in building the Viking Park in East Carbon, Utah and organized the Mining Museum there. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a Bishop for ten years and had held the Wellington Stake Presidency. Mr. Gunderson spearheaded the development of the Wellington Stake Barbecue held every year. He and his wife had also served three L.D.S. Missions.

For his enitire life he sang for weddings, funerals, church gatherings, reunions and for family and friends.

His interests included his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Utah Jazz and BYU Cougars fan. He spent much time fishing, hunting and camping in the Boulder and Diamond Mountains and at the Matt Warner Reservoir. He also liked to weld.

Survivors include his wife Karla Gunderson of Rock Springs, Wyo.; four sons Randy Gunderson and wife Roslyn of West Jordan, Clay Gunderson and wife Pamela of Green River, Wyo., Page Gunderson of Rock Springs, Wyo. and Drake Gunderson and wife Heather of Green River, Wyo.; two daughters Jacquie Lynn Gunders and Traci E.M. Wakefield both of Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister Belle Finley of Mont.; seventeen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Jack and Charles; four sisters Helen, Dora, Velora and Veloye.

Memorial Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the Wellington Stake Center.

Friends may call at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyo. at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012. Military Honors and Interment will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the Vetran's Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
