The Carbon High Swim Team hosted their first meet of the season on Friday Nov. 16 against the visiting Richfield Wildcats.

Richfield out numbering the Dinos in the number of swimmers didn't cause any problems for the Dinos as the girls team tied the Wildcats at 81 and the boys outscored the Wildcats 87 to 82.

The first event of the night was the 200 medley relay which is not a top event for the Dino girls, according to head coach Kamera Davis. Lonnie Meineche was first for the Dinos finishing her leg of Backstroke in first, next Heidi Prettyman swimming Breaststroke barely out touching the Wildcats. Ali Heath, a freshman, was in the water next with her Butterfly swimming against the Wildcats strongest swimmer and senior captain as they stretched out for the end of their leg, the Wildcats out touched the Dinos by less than a half a second. In the last leg of the race Paula Gibson swam one of her best freestyle legs with a time of 27.63 to win the race with a final time of 2:11.96 to Richfield's 2:13.18.

For the boys 200 medley relay, Lance Riche was up first as he just beat out his competitor 30.31 to 30.45. A new swimmer this year for the Dinos, Susannah Ohlwiler, impressed her coach with a time of 2:53.76. In the boys 200 free Garff easily took first finishing 10 seconds in front of the next competitor. In the girls 200 I.M. In the boys 200 free relay, freshman Joseph Keller touched in second place three seconds behind their senior swimmer. Baker kept the team in the race not losing any ground, Zach Prettyman swam a great time of 26.77 and almost caught the Wildcats. The Dino girl's went into the last event down by two points and they had to win if there was any chance of ending in a tie. Engar finished her leg one second in front of the Wildcats and Erica Mantz finished her leg tied with the Wildcats. Tati Larsen finished her leg behind the Wildcats and Willson had to make up a lot of ground in the final leg as she passed the Wildcat swimmer and finished in first by more than five seconds. The girl's tied with Richfield, marking the first time Carbon has not lost to the Richfield girl's in more than five years. In the boy's 400 free relay, the Dinos finished in first by 16 seconds.

"I am so proud of the way my team swam we have so many new swimmers," said Davis. "This year we have taught 10 swimmers how to swim in just a few weeks and they all competed in the meet. Carbon is one of the smallest teams in our region but we are good."
