Newspaper truck and wild animals do not mix

The Tuesday issue of the Sun Advocate almost didn't make it back to Carbon County from where it is printed at the Richfield Reaper on Monday night. For the second time this year the truck struck an animal, this time on Interstate 70 near the top of Salina Canyon. Late last winter the same truck struck a deer in Emery County on the way to Richfield, causing nearly $300 worth of

damage to the vehicle. On Monday night an elk walked right out in front of the truck this time causing an estimated $6000 worth of damage. Deer and elk kills around the state by motor vehicles are high with the most animal deaths attributed to Highway 6, I-70 and I-80. It takes a lot to get the paper to subscribers doorsteps, and as can be seen from the condition of the truck some days it takes even a little more than that. No one, other than the elk, was injured in Monday nights incident.
