PRICE/KEMMERER,Wyo - Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Robert Clark Nelson, age 85, passed away Oct. 21, 2012 in Price.
He was born Dec. 13, 1926 in Kemmerer, Wyo., to Marcus David and Mary Clark Nelson. In his youth, Robert spent a lot of time in Evanston and Kemmerer with his mother and he worked alongside his father at the family ranch near Opal, Wyo. At the age of 16, Robert bought a small school bus in Lincoln County where he operated it from the ranch to Kemmerer for school district # 2 for the students of 11th and 12th grades.
In May of 1945 he was drafted in the Army and served honorably until being discharged in November of 1946.
After returning from the service, he married Marie M. Gunter in Kemmerer, Wyo., on July 17, 1948 and they made their home on the family ranch for the next seven years. From 1955 through 1957 he worked on the construction of the gas plant. For the next 29 years he worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company at the Nugget compressor station and the Opal gasoline plant. In 1985, he retired from the gas company and worked the next six summers at Fossil Butte National Monument as a utility man.
Robert was a member of the Ft. Bridger American Legion Post # 36 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie # 2341 of Kemmerer, Wyo. For years he was a Boy Scout Leader and a volunteer at the Fossil County Museum. He loved his family greatly and will be dearly missed by all.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie Nelson, Price; his sons, Roger W. (Pam) Nelson, Cheyenne, Wyo., Jerry R. (Mary Ann) Nelson, Spring Glen; four grandchildren, Patrick, Scott, Stephanie and Brad Nelson; brothers, David (Connie) Nelson, Kemmerer, Wyo., Edward Nelson, Murray, Utah; half-brothers and sister, Danny Nelson, Freddie Nelson, both of Laramie, Wyo; Jimmie Nelson, Peggy Coleman, Fort Collins, Colo.
Graveside service will be held, Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, Noon, South Lincoln Special District Cemetery in Kemmerer, Wyo. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price, where friends are welcome to share memories of Robert at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
