Feelin' no pain

This young moose is feeling the effects of a tranquilizer dart fired by Division of Wildlife Resources biologist Brad Crompton Tuesday morning in Helper. The moose was spotted in the vicinity of Roosevelt Street and North Main Street just as kids were on the way to nearby Sally Mauro Elementary and Helper Junior High School. The capture went pretty smoothly, Crompton said. Helper police and Utah Highway Patrol troopers controlled traffic, and the moose did only minor damage to a backyard fence before the tranquilizer took effect. He'll be happier when he sobers up, wearing a new collar in the habitat on top of the Tavaputs Plateau as part of the DWR's relocation program for nuisance moose.
