Manti-La Sal National Forest Proposes Recreation Fee Increase
PRICE, UT - Recreation managers on the Manti-La Sal National Forest
are interested in hearing your comments on a proposal to increase the
fee at Seely Guard Station.
Ferron/Price Ranger District: Seely Guard Station would increase fees
from $30 to $50 per night.
"We recognize how important this site is to our local communities and
those who use the site," said Bill Broadbear, Manti-La Sal recreation
program manager. "These fees will help us maintain the new and
improved site to the level and quality people have come to expect."
All fee proposals will be presented before a citizen's advisory
committee, Utah Recreation Resource Advisory Committee (RRAC).
Committee members represent a broad array of recreation interest
groups to help ensure that the Forest Service is proposing reasonable
and publicly acceptable fee changes. Committee members will help
ensure that the Forest Service addresses public issues and concerns
about recreation fees. The public is welcome to attend and comment at
all advisory committee meetings. The next RRAC meeting is expected to
be held in the winter of 2013, the exact meeting time, location and
agenda will be announced on forest website and through local media.
These fee proposals will also have extensive reviews by both the
Forest Service Regional and Washington Offices.
In 2004, Congress passed the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act
which allows the Forest Service to keep 95 percent of fees collected
at certain recreation sites and use these funds locally to operate and
maintain and improve these sites.
Most recreation opportunities on Manti-La Sal National Forest lands
are free. The Manti-La Sal National Forest manages about 133 developed
recreation sites, of which about 44 currently charge fees. Of those
sites charging fees more than 70 percent are campgrounds and
