Don was born and raised in Helper and always spoke fondly about his experiences growing up there. After completing his military service he moved to California where he met and married Judy Lane. They had a wonderful 53 years together.
An avid motorcyclist and pilot, he earned a Colonel's rating in the Air Force Reserves and for four years was in charge of all search and rescue for the state of California. During this time he won numerous awards from both the state and federal government.
He and Judy traveled the world including visiting all seven continents and nearly 100 countries. Some of his favorite trips were going motorcycling in the Alps which he did on seven occasions. He also ran a successful business, retiring at age 58.
He was a wonderful, fun guy who will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Castro Valley, Calif. If anyone would like to make a charitable donation in memory of Don, we would suggest the Carbon High School Class of '52 Scholarship Fund, c/o Gary Turnbull, 1848 E. 2475 S., Bountiful, UT, 84010.
