With some help from jail inmate volunteers, Helper City workers lay new sod on the outfield of the town's American Legion Ballfield. The diamond was closed for the past season because time had taken its toll on the grass and soil. Over the past months, the city has been able to regrade the surface, making the infield once again level with the outfield. Resodding now will enable the roots to take hold and allow the underlying soil to firm up over the winter. The next steps will be to install some new sprinklers, and spread a new layer of red dirt on the infield. The city expects that everything will be in fine shape for the first pitch of next year's baseball season.
