With their only home meet of the season on tap this Wednesday at the Carbon Country Club and the upcoming Region 12 meet on Oct. 9, the Carbon High Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are improving their times with each passing meet, according to head coach Telisse Allen.

Allen said both the boys and girls teams have become stronger over the season and are looking to finish strong with the region meet at Spanish Fork in less than three weeks.

For the boys team, Allen said junior Garrett Marsing has been running well despite facing higher class runners at some meets. At the BYU Autumn Classic last weekend, Marsing finished the 5K run in fourth place with a time of 16:38.8. Allen said he was the only runner from Carbon High to participate at the meet.

At two earlier meets at Murray and Uintah, Allen said the girls team finished well including a third place finish at Uintah. With a number of first year runners on the girls squad, Allen said the combined times of all the girls at recent meets compare well to other Region 12 teams including Juab.

A rookie race for first year runners was held at the Murray Invitational and a handful of runners from the boys and girls squads competed.

For the girls in the 5K run, the results included: Giovanna Chiara, 23:13.4, Abbi Powell, 24:00.8, Jenee Martinez, 24:24.1, Alyssa Rassmussen, 26:50.3 and Jessica Tanner, 33:04.0

For the boys, the 5K run results included: Trey Richardson, 20:12.2, Andrew Gagnon, 21:19.3, Chris Shaw, 22:08.7, Will Laursen, 23:23.6, Dallin Quinton, 23:41.4, Tyler Peat, 25:05.2 and Gabe Vandyke, 28:49.3.

Carbon High is getting ready in anticipation of their region home meet this Wednesday at the Carbon Country Club.
