Mont Harmon Running Raptors getting top finishes at meets
The Mont Harmon Junior High Running Raptors Running Club visited Vernal for a meet and came away with top finishes.
At their last meet in Vernal on Wednesday, Sept. 12, the athletes ran a course that was two miles long. The girls team took first place by just one point. In the meet Mont Harmon's girls of Sarah Ohlwiler, Zahrah Rossi, and Sadie Crompton finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to lead the team to victory. Emily Jesperson and Cami Taylor completed the top five which are the only ones that count in the team scoring.
The boys team finished third as Drew Jones led the team with a 7th place finish. The other team members for Mont Harmon's top five were in order: Tiger Thayn, Jamin Jensen, Logan Engar and Paul Bryner.
This is the third year the team has been in existence, according to head coach Jeff Ohlwiler.
Mont Harmon Junior High team call themselves the Running Raptors Running Club because 5th and 6th graders are on the team as well.
This year the team has between 25-30 athletes ranging from 5th - 9th grades. Ohlwiler said the team has a strong eighth grade running class as the top three girls and top eight boys are all eighth graders.
"The kids we have this year are great. They work hard and have fun together," said Ohlwiler. Practices are held right after school from 3 to 4 p.m. at Washington Park.
The next meet will be at the Carbon Golf Course on Sept. 26.
