Arch Coal will recognize teacher excellence
Five area teachers will be recognized for excellence in teaching again this school year by the Arch Coal Foundation through its prestigious Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards program. The announcement was made by Ken May, general manager of the Sufco mine.
"Outstanding teachers have such a positive influence on our lives, but we often forget to thank them for all they do," May said. "The Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards program provides a way for community members to recognize those excellent teachers who helped shape their lives."
Award winners receive $3,500 personal cash awards, plaques and trophies, as well as widespread recognition. This is the seventh year for the foundation's teacher recognition program in Carbon, Emery, Sanpete and Sevier counties, which surround the Sufco, Dugout Canyon and Skyline mines operated by Canyon Fuel Company LLC, a subsidiary of Arch Coal, Inc.
"The hallmark of the program is that anyone in the community - parents, students, family members and other educators - can nominate a worthy teacher," said May. "The process is easy, with forms available in area schools, at partner locations or on the Internet at archteacherawards.com."
Nominations are open now through the first week of January. Nominated teachers must complete a written application, which is then judged by a blue-ribbon panel of former award recipients. Winners are announced in the spring, near the close of the school year.
Partners for the program include the Utah State Office of Education, Utah Education Association, Utah School Superintendents Association, Carbon County School District, Emery County School District, Sevier County School District, North Sanpete School District, South Sanpete School District, Far West Bank, radio stations KMTI, KLGL, KMGR, KSVC, KWUT, KOAL, KARB, KRPX, and Market Express, TacoTime and Bookcliff Sales in Price.
The Arch Coal Foundation also supports teacher recognition or grants programs in Wyoming, West Virginia and Colorado, as well as a number of other education-related causes.
