PCA Panthers Baseball splits doubleheader with Wendover
In their first trip to Wendover, the Pinnacle Canyon Academy baseball team certainly had a road trip to remember.
The Panthers took the first game of the doubleheader 12-3 before falling in a wild, up and down battle that finally ended with Wendover winning 20-15 on Friday afternoon.
PCA head coach Jason Jaramillo said the team came out strong in the first game despite the long bus ride, scoring five runs in the first inning to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Panthers never trailed as they rode a strong pitching performance from Yoni Mediano and balanced hitting throughout the lineup en route to the 12-3 victory.
In the second game, Jaramillo said the pitching staff allowed too many walks and the defense committed too many errors. Despite being down by as many as eight runs, Jaramillo said catcher Chris Smith hit a 3-run home run that gave the Panthers a 16-15 lead. But Wendover took the lead back and held off the Panthers sending them to a 20-15 defeat.
The Panthers (5-3) will prepare to play at Tabiona (10-2 overall, 5-0 Region 18) on Friday with the doubleheader scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
Jaramillo said the team is playing well as of late and will be looking to carry some momentum into the games with Region 18 leader Tabiona.
