EAST CARBON - It is with great sadness that the family of Tomas F. Hernandez announce his passing on Sept. 3, 2012.
Tomas was born to Tony and Alexandrina Hurtado Hernandez on July 8, 1969 in Moab. He was the youngest of eight children and spoiled rotten. He always got to go with mom and dad or he would get picked on. Tomas was the first of his family to graduate high school in 1987.
Straight from high school Tomas enlisted in the Air Force and served at Hill Air Force Base until 1989 when he returned back home to East Carbon to spend time with his parents and make many unforgettable memories with his close friends.
In 1991, he moved to Wendover, Nev., and met the love of his life. Tomas and Jennifer were married Dec. 17, 1995. During their years together Tomas was a police officer for the Wendover, Utah Police Department.
In 1999, Tomas became a grandpa which would change his life forever. Later that year Tomas and Jennifer returned back to East Carbon to care for Tony. In the years following Tomas loved camping, four wheeling, jeeping, going for a ride outside or anything that the family could do together.
Tomas was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He also loved mountain biking and had many crazy stories to share about him, Eric, Joe and Dave. Tomas had a huge love for his grandchildren and he especially loved to watch Zacharey pitch at his baseball games. MaKinzey and papa would take noodles and sheets and make forts in the backyard. Makiley was a papa's girl and he loved getting her bear hugs and bunny
kisses. He loved getting phone calls and pictures from his KayDee bug, and Bentley learned to say Papa two days before his passing. Tomas touched many lives in so many different ways.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Hernandez, East Carbon; his daughters, Patricia (Cory) Summers, Rock Springs, Wyo., Brandilyn Cross (Paul Naranjo), East Carbon; five grandchildren: Zacharey, MaKinzey, MaKiley and Bentley Cross all of East Carbon, and KayDee Summers, Rock Springs, Wyo; five brothers, two sisters and their spouses and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Tony and mother Alexandrina, and sister Nadine.
Memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at the Mitchell Funeral Home.
