What a difference a year can make.

At the conclusion of their meeting last season, the Carbon High Dinos walked off the football field with wide smiles on their faces after completing a fourth-quarter comeback to win against the Union High Cougars. But this time around, the Cougars wanted payback and they got it in dramatic fashion.

Union running back Gavin Nielsen broke free from the Carbon defense on a fourth down play scoring on a 45-yard touchdown run to give Union a 27-21 lead with 45 seconds left.

In their final attempt to drive down the field for a possible game winning score, Dinos quarterback Dakota Cisneros lobbed a pass down the right sideline for wide receiver Jordan Blanc that was intercepted by Union's Wyatt Kesler, sealing the victory for the Cougars.

The ending was a brutal blow to the Dinos who engineered a fourth-quarter drive to tie the game at 21-21 that was almost a mirror image of the drive they put together in their win over Union (3-1, Region 10) last season.

As was the story all game long, Cisneros found Blanc in open areas in the Cougar defense including on a 9-yard TD catch with just over four minutes left in the game. On the ensuing extra point attempt, Cisneros connected again with Blanc in the end zone for the two-point conversion tying the game at 21-21.

The two teammates had connected earlier in the game as Blanc scored on a 60-yard TD pass less than a minute into the game giving the Dinos an early 7-0 lead. Blanc would later score again in the second quarter as he caught a short slant pass weaving his way past Cougar defenders for a touchdown.

With the loss, Carbon High (1-3, Region 12) will now look to bounce back during Homecoming Week as they will host class 1A's Altamont (0-4) next Friday night at 7 p.m.
