William "Bill" Farrington Martin

HUNTINGTON - William "Bill" Farrington Martin, 91 passed away at his home on Sept. 2, 2012 following a lengthy illness, with his beloved wife and family at his side.

He was born May 18, 1921 in Twin Falls, Idaho to William Perley and Alice Isabella Martin. He was one of seven children. The family then moved to Stockton, Calif., where he attended school. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an excellent sheet metal worker. After his service, he attended BYU to perfect his skills in sheet metal.

He married Laura J. Lawrance and they had a daughter then later divorced. Bill came to Huntington and worked on the construction of the Hunter and Huntington Power Plants. Once here, he met and married Wanda L. Brinkerhoff on Feb. 22, 1986. They were sealed together in the Manti Temple on May 30, 1987 and together they served missions in the Tennessee Nashville and the Salt Lake LDS Business College. Bill was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in his callings. He retired in Dec. 1985 from the sheet metal industry after 60 years and spent his life enjoying golfing, fishing, and traveling.

He is survived by his beloved wife Wanda L. Martin, Huntington, his daughter Laurine J. (Michael) Vargas, Bull Shoals, Ark., his step-son Thomas Brian (Susan)McGinnis, Milford, and son Nathan Martin, of Oregon. He is also survived by two grandchildren, four step grandchildren and one great-grandchild, along with a brother Ray (Heloise) Martin and a sister Lois Reece both of Hurricane, and a sister Mary Stevens, Mt. Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a step grandson Brian who he loved dearly.

A viewing will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Huntington 5th Ward Chapel at 115 S. 400 E. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will then be held in the Huntington City Cemetery under the trusted care of Heritage Funeral Home, Huntington. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at
