HELPER - Our loving husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Peter Alfred Via, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Helper on Aug. 29, 2012 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born March 22, 1939 in Spring Glen to Joe and Mary Prazza Via.
Married Mary Alexander July 31, 1965 in Grand Junction, Colo.
Pete was a member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Pete honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, yard work, and his cat.
He liked to take trips to Lake Powell and Wendover. His greatest love was spending time with his family and giving everyone a hard time and sharing a good laugh with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by his loving wife, Mary Via, Helper; mother, Mary Weiss, Helper; three sons, Kirk Via, Washington; Cass Via, Grand Junction, Colo; Carl (Stacie) Via, Montrose, Colo; sister, Paula (Mel) Baughman; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his father, Joe Via; step father, Martin Weiss; brother, Charlie Via.
Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, 10 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church, Helper. A vigil was held on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the church in Helper.
Family will receive friends Friday and Saturday one hour prior to service at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Pete online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
