MONTROSE, COLO./PRICE - Milford Harold Owen, age 87, passed away Aug. 29, 2012 in Price.
He was born July 11, 1925 to Percy and Violet Williams Owen in Montrose, Colo., where his family owned and operated a very successful produce business. At an early age, Hal learned the importance of hard work and a good education. While his parents operated Owen Produce, he was able to learn many valuable lessons in life from Grandma Berryhill which he was very grateful for. He was an accomplished pianist and a graduate of Montrose High School.
After schooling, Hal moved to San Francisco where he graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelors in Business. For the next 35 years he worked in all phases of the insurance industry and had the opportunity to work with Lloyd's of London and eventually retire from Royal Indemnity.
Hal loved to cook, garden and most of all enjoy the comforts of his beautiful Victorian home in San Francisco with his lifelong friend John Lancaster. Both Hal and John were very successful in their occupations and they always stressed the importance of receiving a higher education. They assisted many in their schooling, but were especially proud of being able to help George Lancaster with his.
Hal loved to travel and after his health began to fail he made the trip to Utah where he received exceptional care at the Heirloom Inn and Pinnacle Care and Rehabilitation for the past nine years. Just a day before his passing, Hal was preparing to move to Mesquite, Nev. where he could be closer to Tom and Laurel Marinos. He was very appreciative of the care he received and was always willing to help those in need. Hal touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all.
Hal is survived by his nephew, John (Holly) Owen, Denver, Colo; cousins, Mike (Pat) Billis, Tom (Jerry) Billis, both of Salt Lake City, Saralyn Montoya, St. George, Jack Marinos, Helper, Tom (Laurel) Marinos, Mesquite, Nev; and numerous other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and many longtime friends in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill; lifetime friend John Lancaster; and his favorite "Auntie Mae".
