Sun Advocate, schools to
continue traditional pages
The Sun Advocate has worked in conjunction with Carbon School District for more than a dozen years in bringing a school page to the pages of the paper each week during the school year.
This year will be no different.
Starting with the Sept. 20, 2012 issue the paper will make a round robin throughout the year of materials, photos, art and write-ups that students, faculty and administration have submitted for publication.
"This has been a tradition ever since I began working here in 2000 and was also part of the paper for many years before that," said Sun Advocate publisher Richard Shaw on Friday. "We have always enjoyed bringing the news of the schools to our readers. Best of all, the news on this page comes from those who work in the schools directly, not from our staff."
Around the Sun Advocate the page is called the school page and it usually is filled with photos that have been sent in highlighting what is going on at each campus location.
The schedule for this year includes:
Carbon High School - Sept. 27, Dec. 6, March 7.
Lighthouse High School - Nov. 22, Feb. 21, May 2
Helper Junior High - Oct. 18, Jan. 17, March 28
Mont Harmon Junior High - Nov. 8, Feb. 7, April 18
Sally Mauro Elementary - Nov. 1, Jan. 31, April 11
Wellington Elementary - Nov. 15, Feb. 14, April 25
Bruin Point Elementary - Oct. 4, Dec. 13, March 14
Creekview Elementary - Oct. 25, Jan. 24, April 4
Castle Heights Elementary - Oct. 11, Jan. 10, March 21
Castle Valley Center - Nov. 29, Feb. 28, May 9
Other Thursday paper dates throughout the school year are reserved for various district departments, including one for food service and one for the Board of Education.
This feature of the newspaper is presented as a public service for the community.
"We hope that everyone enjoys the photos and the stories that we are sent to put on those pages," said Shaw. "We think the schools in our area are the heart of our community and they are certainly the future of it."
