HELPER - Donna Vee Forsyth Christensen, age 83, passed away Aug. 21, 2012 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 9, 1929 in Price to Jack Clyde and Anna Della Carrera Forsyth.
Donna V. was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1947 where she was a member of the Pep Club. After graduation she enrolled in the nursing program at St. Mark's where she pursued a brief career in nursing. Shortly thereafter she married Ronald Dwayne Christensen and they moved to Richfield where they owned and operated the Best Western Motel in Richfield.
She attended Snow College where she participated in Forensics. Donna V. graduated from Snow College and Southern Utah University with a Master's in Psychology and a minor in History. After graduation she worked as an educator in Salina until a stroke forced her to retire. Donna V. loved working as a teacher and she was always finding new ways to broaden her students horizons. After retirement she enjoyed teaching ESL classes in her home.
In her later years, she returned to Carbon County where she rekindled many old friendships and established the Donna Vee Forsyth Christensen International Scholarship fund in 2006 at the College of Eastern Utah. Donna V set up this perpetual endowment fund to ensure that international students will be able to continue their educations. She will dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survived by her devoted companion, Angel Campuzano, Price; daughter, Ronna Ann (Richard) Leyba, Salt Lake City; son, Terry Lee Christensen, Richfield; sister, Merlene Frank, Orlando, Fla., cousin, Gary Forsyth, Cedar Hills; aunt, Darlene Forsyth Crandall, Washington; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a community of friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Scott Duane Christensen.
Funeral Mass, Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony's in Helper Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
