The Price City Council, as a result of a tie-breaking vote cast by Mayor Joe Piccolo, chose Grady McEvoy to fill the unexpired term of his wife Jeanne, who recently resigned her seat on the council to take employment out of town.

The new councilman is a theater instructor at USU Eastern and a former chairman of the Carbon School District Board. He will remain in Price because of his contract with the college.

Piccolo cast the deciding vote Wednesday when council members Kathy Smith and Layne Miller voted for McEvoy while Rick Davis and Wayne Clausing voted no. The mayor had said before the vote that the quality of candidates for the position meant that the council could not make a wrong decision in its choice.

Others seeking the open seat were:

R. J. Marshall, chief engineer at the Utah American Energy Lila Canyon Mine;

Richard Tatton, long-time council member who declined to run for re-election last year; and

Kendra Seeley, who has been active in community service, including membership on the city library board and the recent city centennial committee.
