White squad defeats Blue squad 32-26 as Dinos officially open 2012 season

If the Carbon High Football team is looking to improve in 2012, then the play during the annual Blue and White game may have showed the Dinos mean business.

In a back-and-forth battle with both offenses moving the ball down the field, the White squad defeated the Blue squad 32-26 on Friday evening at the Carbon High Football field.

The Dinos showed success both running and passing the ball as starting quarterback senior Dakota Cisneros and senior wide receiver Jordan Blanc were some of the many Dino players to shine in the scrimmage. Cisneros connected with Blanc for two touchdowns. Blanc completed his first game in nearly two years after dealing with knee injuries by scoring three total touchdowns.

"We spent all summer in the weight room getting ready for the season to start," said the senior wide receiver. "It's great being back on the field again."

Junior running back Dominic Rondinelli, a transfer from Emery High, and junior wide receiver Zac Hathaway each had standout performances for their respective squads.

Carbon High head coach Jeff Blanc said the team's hard work in the offseason showed during the scrimmage.

The team looks vastly improved in many facets of the game and many of the young players on the squad showed the future can be bright for the program.

While the team is showing signs of progress in picking up all of the intricacies of the spread offense, Blanc said coaches will be looking to work on the defense in preventing big plays from occurring.

"Offensively we're further ahead of where I thought we'd be at this point," said Jeff Blanc. "Our defense is still young and we're going to need to work on stopping the big plays from happening."

Now the focus of the team shifts to the start of the season as they will face Grand High at home on Friday at 7 p.m.

Blanc said the team is looking to carry the confidence from a 4-0 start last year into the 2012 season.

"We've got a lot of work to do this week watching film and working hard in practice to prepare for Grand," he said.
