Vincent Anella unveils the monument he created as his Eagle Scout project Thursday evening at the east trailhead of the Price River Trail. The red sandstone monolith contains a carved granite plaque that originally adorned a 1936 marker that stood at 600 South Carbon Avenue. That plaque, a project of Explorer Troop 284 and scoutmaster William Campbell, was taken down to make room for the widening of Carbon Avenue to accommodate the interchange of the US 6 bypass highway. It commemorated the first cabin built in Price by Abraham Powell in 1877 about 1,000 feet west of the site. Mary Helen Powell kept the plaque and donated it to the new monument. Scouter Sidney Nelson had heard of the history of the plaque and suggested the restoration of the monument to Vincent. Nelson congratulated the young man for his efforts at the dedication. Mayor Joe Piccolo, Public Works Director Gary Sonntag and Troop 296 Scoutmaster Chase Greenhalgh also commended Vincent for his work. Vincent is the son of Dennis and Lana Anella.
