Eric Alan McKinney passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Eric was born in Kankakee, Ill., on March 15, 1966. He graduated from Carbon High School in Price. He attended the College of Eastern Utah on a football scholarship. He later transferred to Southern Utah University in Cedar City and graduated with a Business Degree. Eric was invited to try out for the Miami Dolphins and was later, unfortunately, injured ending his football playing career.
Eric married Sheila Stover on Sept. 28, 1996. Eric was employed by Windsor Industries as a Sales Representative.
Eric loved the sports and was an asset to any team he played or coached for. Eric continued his love sports by coaching hundreds of children throughout the Orange County area. At the time he died, Eric coached at Trabuco Hills High School. He also spent time coaching Pop Warner Football, NJB Basketball, AYSO Soccer, North Mission Viejo Little League, and the Mission Viejo girls softball team. Eric was a community volunteer for many club and travel teams.
Eric's biggest passion in his life was for his family. He scheduled his life around his children's sports activities. He embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. His children and family describe him as cheerful, loving, kind, and friendly man who was full of life. He filled a room with his smile and cheered people up everywhere he went. Everyone thought of him as a gentle giant as his kind heart and smile always diffused his giant presence.
Eric's dream was for his children to be awarded scholarships for their academic and sports excellence preferably close to their home so he could attend all their activities.
His family and friends and the entire community will miss Eric and his love for life. He is now coaching the SuperBowl in the Sky.
Eric is survived by his loving wife, Sheila and his three children, Kyle, Kevin, and Carly. He was the second child of Everett and Edith McKinney. Eric is survived also by his four siblings Ashley, Todd, Heather and Ryan McKinney.
