Helper baseball set to face Grantsville to begin 2012 State Tournament

The Helper American Legion Baseball team will begin its quest in the 2012 State Tournament as they will play Grantsville on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Oquirrh Park in Kearns.

Helper was given the three seed in the double elimination tournament narrowly missing out on being the number one seed.

With Tooele losing over the weekend, Helper head coach Jeff Cisneros said the team had a shot to be the one seed in the tournament if not for a 5-1 loss on Saturday to Granger.

Helper will be looking to improve upon their last two years at the State Tournament. Cisneros said the team finished in third place last year and lost in the championship game in 2010.

One thing the Helper team will need to overcome is the constant traveling over the course of the next week.

Cisneros said the team will likely be traveling back and forth from home to Kearns as they continue along in tournament play.

Despite some tough play early in the season, Cisneros said the team is ready for the tournament to begin.

"It's all about playing good at the right time, catching breaks and hitting the ball well in the tournament," Cisneros said.
