SANDY - Our dear mother and friend, Tess Milovich, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2012, in Sandy. Tess came into this world as Theresa Passarella on July 20, 1927, in Clear Creek, the youngest of nine children born to Mary and Anthony Passarella. She married Nick Milovich in 1953 at Notre Dame Church in Price.
Tess was raised in Price and attended Notre Dame Catholic School where she formed life-long friendships and continued to devote her time and creative talents as a volunteer and "room mother." Tess sang in the Notre Dame Parish choir along with her sister and friends. She was active in sports and loved to golf, bowl, and play racquetball but was also known for her elaborately decorated birthday cakes and fancy Christmas cookies. Nothing gave her more joy than inviting her family to her home for an elegant holiday dinner or making her famous fried chicken for reunion picnics in Price Canyon.
Her quick wit, endless loyalty to her family and friends, and congeniality endeared her to everyone she met. Petite in stature but boundless in energy, her favorite quip was, "I'm small, but I'm mighty!" She had a special place in her heart for children and nurtured their talents whether it was taping a drawing to her refrigerator door, attending baseball games and gymnastic meets, or, when they grew into young adults, encouraging them to seek higher education.
Tess is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen (James) Jansen, son Nick (Wendy) Milovich, sister Christine Hanson, several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
Tess is preceded in death by her husband, Nick Milovich, her brothers, Frank, Ernest, Fred, and Arthur Passarella, her sisters Elva Passarella and Emma Marasco, and sister Edith Passarella who died in infancy.
A rosary will be said in honor of Tess on Wednesday evening, July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell's Funeral Home. Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 26, at Notre Dame Church at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside services at the Price Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell's Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. The family respectfully requests that donations be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church, 185 N. Carbon Ave., Price, Utah 84501. Arrangements are entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome and may share memories of Tess online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.

Do you think the Utah Legislature should increase appropriations for public education in Utah beyond the current legislative trend in the past few years of funding only for growth in student population?
