Former museum director pays $11,000 to settle old issue with Helper City

Helper City has received an $11,000 payment from the former director of its Western Mining and Railroad Museum and a contractor as part of an out-of-court settlement on financial issues raised in a state audit almost four years ago.

SueAnn Martell resigned the museum directorship in December 2008 during the audit requested by Mayor Mike Dalpiaz. Since that time, the city has been seeking restitution for what it claims were improprieties involving payments to Darrin Teply, a contractor retained to provide various services to the museum.

The payment closes out a long-standing issue between the parties, said Councilman Kirk Mascaro.
