With the counting of 85 absentee and provisional ballots in Tuesday's canvass of the primary election, Mikel L. Johnson's victory in the Democratic Party primary for Carbon County commission became official.

Johnson defeated opponent David Smith by 29 votes, 576 to 547. Johnson will run against Republican Casey Hopes in the Nov. 6 general election.

The later ballots did not change the order of finish of any of the GOP candidates chosen in June's election. Mitt Romney won the presidential contest, Orrin Hatch won senate, John Swallow took attorney general and John Dougall got the approval to run for state auditor.
