WAYNESBORO, Ga. - William Darrell Murphy, "Papa", age 64, entered into rest on Monday, June 18, 2012. He was born Aug. 19, 1947, to the late Jack and Eva Murphy in St. Charles, Va., in Benedict Coal County. He married Mary Bingham in 1977. Mr. Bill was a Vietnam veteran, coal miner and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; three brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Murphy; two daughters, Nancy Murphy, Waynesboro, Ga., and Shawna McDaniel (Tim), Rincon, Ga; one son, Clyde Bingham, Price; seven granddaughters; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Jerry Sue Baker, Big Stone Gap, Va., Marilyn Smith (Harold), Pennington Gap, Va., and Becky Woodard (Howdy), Keokee, Va; two brothers, Harry Murphy (Edith), and Bub Murphy, both of St. Charles, Va. A host of other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary. Burial service was held at Murphy Family Cemetery with military rites conducted by the local VFW and the Army National Guard Colors Team.
