Mikel L. Johnson edged out opponent David Smith in the Democratic Party primary race for county commission Tuesday. The tally showed Johnson leading Smith by 35 votes, 560 to 525.

There are still provision and absentee ballots to count, so the total could change by next week's final canvass.

In other primary voting, Carbon County voters paralleled other Utahns in their choices.

Mitt Romney eclipsed all other contenders in the Republican presidential primary, garnering 89.12 percent of the county's Republican voters.

Incumbent Sen. Orrin Hatch outpolled opponent Dan Liljenquist by nearly two to one, 65.92 percent to 34.08.

Carbon Republicans preferred John Swallow to Sean D. Reyes in the Attorney General race, 66.53 percent to 34.47.

They also favored John Dougal over Auston Johnson for State Auditor.

In the Constitutional party primary for governor, Brandon W. Nay got 7 votes to Kirk D. Pearson's 6.
