Susan Perri assists Creekview students in crossing the street after school. Crossing guards need more than a love of children, explained Perri. The job also requires the workers to meet strict requirements set up by local law enforcement agencies.

'The majority of people don't realize it, but crossing guards are hired through the local police departments. We are all fingerprinted and have completed background checks,' pointed out Perri.

Motorists should remain alert and comply with traffic laws when traveling through school zones. Slow down for flashing lights and travel at the posted speed.
