Wellington rape suspect waives right to preliminary hearing
Dwayne Stacey Shaw, the 21-year-old man accused of being the masked rapist in a Wellington assault last January, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Seventh District Court.
Judge Douglas B. Thomas set an arraignment date of July 9 at 12:15 p.m.
Shaw faces six first-degree felony charges in connection with a break-in and sexual assault of a woman in Wellington on Jan. 13.
The Carbon County Attorney's Office has filed charges of aggravated burglary, rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery.
Shaw, who has been found indigent by the court, is represented court-appointed attorney David M. Allred.
The defendant entered the courtroom Wednesday in jail uniform and wearing handcuffs.
