By JOHN SERFUSTINI Sun Advocate associate editor

Ten-year-old Jacob Davis receives a Price Centennial Challenge Medallion from Mayor Joe Piccolo in front of Davis's 5th grade class at Castle Heights. Jacob was recognized for completing the school's Patriot Packet, which is a collection of tasks involving American history and government. To complete the packet, Jacob had to learn how to say the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language, memorize the Gettysburg Address and the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, learn the names of all the presidents, states and capitals, and explain what various symbols of the United States mean. Jacob was assisted by his parents, Lizz and Damon Davis and by his sister Brie. "You have achieved something you will remember for a long time," the Mayor said. "You have learned that you can achieve something difficult if you put your mind to it." Jacob's teacher is Diana Wood.
