A group of USU Eastern students will be spending plenty of time in the shop practicing and honing their skills in anticipation for national competition.

USU Eastern students Remington Grace, Austin Welch, Dexter Thayn and Chad Malnar will represent Utah at the SkillsUSA National Competition June 23-28 in Kansas City, MO.

Mike Tryon, associate professor of welding at USU Eastern, said the fabrication team of Welch, Thayn and Malnar took first place at the state competition to advance onto nationals.

Tryon also said Grace took first in the individual welder category.

The four students will be looking to continue the tradition of success that the welding department at USU Eastern has seen over the years.
