CHS team fights through weather, tough 3A competition at State Meet at BYU

The Carbon High Track team capped off their season at the State Meet held at BYU last weekend with what head coach Jimmy Jewkes called a "successful end to the season."

A handful of CHS athletes qualified for the State Meet in a number of individual and team events.

Jewkes said the team had to deal with a rain and wet conditions on Friday through much of the timed trials before the weather cleared up, bringing plenty of sunshine on Saturday.

The Boys Medley team consisting of Garrett Marsing, Justin Hepworth, Colton England, Luke Olsen and Dallin Quintin took first in their heat with a time of 3.45.66, finishing sixth overall in the timed finals of the 3A boys medley event.

Jordan Blanc finished in sixth place, earning him a medal for his efforts in the 100 M race with a time of 11.27.

Daulton Nelson, who also competed in the 100 M and 200 M events, took fifth place in the long jump finals. Jewkes said officials at the Region 12 meet held at Juab on May 10, scratched his jump attempts. One of his jumps, measured around 23 feet, would have broken the school record, Jewkes said.

Senior Regan Powell capped off a successful career with her performance at the State Meet. Powell took fifth in the 800 M and placed 15th in the 1600 M.

"She had a great season overall," Jewkes said.

Other results included:

Amanda Freestone, 14th place 100 M, 14th place 200 M, and 7th place in 300 M hurdles;

Diana Olsen, 14th place 3200 M;

Kayleigh Potts, 7th place, Girls High Jump;

Dallas Anderson, 15th place Boys High Jump;

Garrett Marsing, 15th place 1600 M;

Luke Olsen, 16th place 400 M;

Tyler Johnson, 15.89 second in the 110 M hurdles and 40. 91 in the 300 M hurdles.

Boys 4x400 Relay, 2nd in heat, 9th overall, 3.34.37;

Boys 4x100 Relay, 8th place, 44.86;

Girls Medley, 12th overall, 4.33.90

Overall finish for CHS, 19th place with 21 points.
