This past week the project to place at least one flower on the estimated 40,000 graves in Carbon and Emery counties has moved to a new level, both in the making of the flowers and the placing of them on graves.

On Wednesday, the drive exceeded its goals for flowers made by the two communities.

It's now estimated that as many as 1,300 people have been involved in the making of the plastic flowers for graves over the last couple of months. Now some of them, along with other volunteers, are placing flowers throughout this week on graves, just in time for Memorial Day.

Many of the outlying cemeteries have already been decorated and many more will be done by sundown on Saturday.

A final push to finish the Price Cemetery will take place on Saturday morning. Anyone who wants to help with that can meet in the parking lot west of the Carbon School District bus garage at 10 a.m. That is where a truck with flowers will be located and flower buckets will be passed out.

To keep track of the numbers of flowers brought in, each issue of both papers have had a flower thermometer printed on the front page showing how many flowers have come in. The thermometer is now broken at the top as flowers spill over.
