East Carbon police are waiting for a chemical analysis of substances found during a search of a home on 600 West Saturday night.

Local officers along with a K-9 Unit from the Utah Highway Patrol served a warrant at the residence of Leonard Carrillo at 9:45 p.m.

East Carbon Police Chief Sam Leonard said Officer Kelsey Shumway saw suspicious materials during a medical call at the residence the day before and was therefore able to secure a warrant.

According to eye witnesses on scene, East Carbon police had to breach the door when no one answered at the residence. They then proceeded to go through the large home, even having the dog and its handler go around the vehicles parked in the driveway.

Leonard reported that the search produced several substances which the state crime lab is analyzing. The police team spent a large portion of the evening trying to gain entrance to a safe within the home. However, after a family member was unable to open the safe and a local locksmith was also shut out by the unit, the Carbon County District Attorney advised the officers to proceed with the evidence they had already seized. Due to a large backlog of work, it could take the crime lab some time to get back to the department with a chemical analysis of the material found.

No further action can be taken until the material found is positively identified.
