Preparing for takeoff

Civil Air Patrol cadet and Emery High student DJ Horrocks, 16, makes sure his seatbelt is securely fastened before heading up for a glider flight Saturday morning.
Members of the CAPl got to take in a different view of Carbon County as they ascended high into air during familiarization flights held at the Carbon County Airport. Cadets from both Carbon and Emery counties took turns stepping into the cockpit of an ASK21 glider aircraft as part of their work with the Civil Air Patrol.
To start the flight, the cadets crossed off a checklist each requirement before takeoff was completed. Finally, they are taken into the sky by a Cessna aircraft serving as a tow before being released for a flight high above Castle Country.
