PRICE/ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Arthur Duane Wise, age 74, passed away unexpectedly May 5, 2012 at this home in Price.
He was born Oct. 29, 1937 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania to Arthur Woodrow and Dolly Herbert Wise.
On Aug. 30, 1958, he married Opal Jane Semple in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Duane was a longtime resident of St. Clairsville, Ohio and a graduate of St. Clairsville High School Class of 1955. He later attended Ohio State University, Wheeling Jesuit College and Ohio Northern University. In the late sixties, he fell in love with the West after a hunting trip. When the opportunity arose he picked up roots and moved his family to Helper in 1974.
At a very young age he began a career as a Professional Land Surveyor under the direction of his Grandpa W.L. Herbert. Duane worked for several power and coal companies in the East and West and was a partner with Richard Ariotti (A. & W. Surveying). He eventually retired from Ash Grove Portland Cement Company near Nephi in 2000.
After retirement Duane and Jane built their dream log home in Price. He could not stand to sit still and was always tinkering around with the house and yard. Duane was a Civil War Buff, he enjoyed photography, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, especially chasing the "goats" with his family and friends. He loved playing with his great-granddaughters and having coffee with the guys on Fridays.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Jane Wise, Price; one daughter and two sons, Andrea (Kevin) Swanson, Price, Dane (Kelly) Wise, Waterloo, Iowa, Matt (Dina) Wise, Price; sister, Linda Stapp, mother-in-law, Opal Hamlin Semple, both of St. Clairsville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Brandon (Lynsie) Wise, Helper, Mellissa (Tom) Lasslo, Zack Wise, Kelsey Swanson, all of Price, Travis Warren, Green River, Wyo., Roni Law, Price; four great-granddaughters, Kyrell, Braycee and Hailee Wise, Sarah Lasslo with identical twin great-granddaughters on the way.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service, Friday, May 11, 2012, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 E. Main Street in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Thursday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services. Duane had a special place in his heart for the old family farm up Wise Run in Monon. County, West Virginia. His interment will be at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery at a later date Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome to share memories of Duane at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Utah Valley Church of Christ Scholarship Fund, Box 12238, Searcy, Ark., 72149-2238 or to the Primary Children's Hospital.
