VFW wants new members
The local VFW Miners Post 2379 is putting out a "member in arms" call to all present, past and future members of the Veterans of Foreign wars. We are seeking all you veterans with innovative ideas and those with the ability to foster camaraderie for the betterment of our local post so we may increase our membership and integrate support into our community.
Why join the VFW? Because our strength comes from you the veteran. Simply put, the VFW strives to do good things for people; particularly veterans, their families, and our communities. From local grassroots ideas to national influence, they work everyday to make a difference. It's our strength in numbers as an organization that makes the difference. And, with each individual membership, we grow stronger.
Veterans and their experiences play an important role in educating our nation about the founding principles upon which this country was founded. The principles they've fought to protect.
Our members are "living history" and can provide insight into the great sacrifices each individual has made to maintain freedom for all of us.
The VFW welcomes all who meet our eligibility criteria. It's through service to this country that all our membership has earned their status. If you have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay, then you're eligible to join our ranks.
Monthly meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of every month 7 pm at VFW Post 2379, 147 West Main (back of building). Come joins us to catch up on current events or just to sit and talk about "old times."
The VFW operates on both the National and the local level. Our charge at the National level is to be one voice for the betterment of each and every veteran who has served this country with honor. Hers is the VFW troop support at a glance:
Since 2006, over 6.4 million free connections home for deployed troops and hospitalized veterans.
More than $4.3 million in grants toward emergency financial aid to over 3,100 military families.
Hosted nearly 2 million military families at events worldwide since 2007.
The fundamental difference between our organization and other veterans organizations, and one in which we take great pride, is our eligibility qualifications. There are three primary requirements for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States:
(2) Honorable service in the armed forces of the United States.
(3) Service entitling the applicant to the award of a recognized campaign medal or as set forth in the Congressional Charter and By-Laws and Manual of Procedure and Ritual.
If you have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay, then you're eligible to join our ranks.
