Authorities continue to investigate the scene of a small plane crash in San Juan County which killed a Price pilot and two other aboard on the afternoon of April 25.

Monday reports have identified the deceased as 55-year-old Larry Newby of Price, Wade Richardson and his son Kyle Richardson, both of Texas. The crash site was near the Dark Canyon Wilderness Area, about 40 miles west of Monticello.

Newby was a seasoned pilot with Red Tail Aviation. He had had flown many times in the area where the plane went down and had been hired as a guide for the flight.

Newby's employers at Red Tail reported to authorities that a plane had been missing since 1:30 p.m on Wednesday leaving only the GPS coordinates collected from a spot beacon.

Searchers from the Utah Highway Patrol Aero Bureau and San Juan County Sheriff's Deputies, located the wreckage of the plane at 4 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Authorities believe the plane had just lifted off from a small back country air field and shortly after the plane flew east but soon crashed for unknown reasons about a mile from the air strip.

The victims were air lifted from the scene by the UHP helicopter to State Road 95, where rescue personnel transported the remains to Blanding and later to the Medical Examiner's Office.
