The audience at USU Eastern's commencement Saturday may get the impression that there are a lot of women clad in caps and gowns.

That first guess will be correct. Of the 508 graduates at Price and Blanding getting degrees this year, 314 will have the double-X chromosome. The remaining 194 are of the XY variety.

Another interesting demographic in this year's class is that while Utahns dominate the graduate population with 453 members, there are 55 from outside the state - with 20 of them from way outside.

The count of foreign students, by country, is:

South Korea 7, Brazil 3, Philippines 2, China 1, Taiwan 1, Russia 1, Scotland 1, Mexico 1, Japan 1, Jamaica 1, and Germany 1.

Those getting their diplomas on the Price campus will get to hear a keynote address from Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., former Utah governor, US Ambassador to China and GOP presidential hopeful.

Other commencement speakers will include:

Thomas Garvin, Student-body President, Business Major from Price;

Scott Potter, Valedictorian Sciences, Chemistry Major from Price;

Ken Williams, Valedictorian Professional & Technical Education, Business Major from Murray; and

Nikki Jeffs, Valedictorian Liberal Arts, Criminal Justice Major from Spanish Fork.

Receiving the Chancellor's Medallion for long-time service to campus and community will be Price Mayor Joe Piccolo.

Winner of this year's Val J. Halamandaris Caring Award for Outstanding Service by a Student is Keera Allred of Huntington.
