Disappointed with the caucus- Letters to the editor

Editor:

I switched my party affiliation so I could participate in the Republican caucus. I feel like there is a lot at stake right now and my protest affiliation with the Libertarian seems petty. I want to feel like I'm making a difference. I never felt strongly about the Libertarian candidates and I was never under the illusion they had a chance. I just want the Republican Party to know I have other choices.

After my experience at the caucus I nearly want to switch back. I never got the sense that anyone there gets it. I sat there listening to people's argument for incumbents who have been there way too long and are now part of the problem. It was all about power and pork.

I'm sorry, I thought we are supposed to have principles. I thought we are supposed to stand for something. Well for all too many it's just about power and bringing home the bacon. They sell their souls for a mess of pottage.

Isn't the Republican Party supposed to stand for small government? Well it takes people with the courage to say no to spending for that to happen. Do you want small government or do you just want your version of big government? How do we ever get to small government if everyone refuses to let go of the pork?

Let me remind you that a freshman senator's vote counts the same as a senior senator's vote. That's what we send them there for, not to amass power.

We are trillions and trillions of dollars in debt. Do any of you understand what that means? Do any of you really understand what a trillion dollars is? If you spent a million dollars a day from the day Jesus was born it's still not a trillion dollars. Do you realize how long it will take to pay that off? Do you realize we are currently not paying it off, but rather racking up trillions and trillions more?

What will it take for you people to wake up? Some day your children and grand children will be enslaved by this debt and they will ask you: What did you do about this? Make sure you tell them how you saved the local military base.

I'm sure that will be a huge consolation.
